DOWNTOWN SPOLIGHT: For the Love Of Chocolate

The cool and breezy days of Spring are coming to a close and summer is upon us. May Fine Arts Festival was a month of festive weekends and so many wonderful artful moments. Summer is knocking on our doors and with that comes the fun, relaxing season of vacationers. The shops are stocked and ready to show off their treasures . We all know that we have some of the best shopping in North West Arkansas. I am here today to share the best places to take care of that chocolate craving. Who doesn’t like chocolate? And here in Eureka Springs we have an abundance of shops to take care of that desire. I would like to start with the oldest candy shop in town . Sweets Fudge Kitchen 36 Spring St. has been a fixture in Eureka since 1969. You will know that you have found it when you find the old fashion taffy machine in the window. It is located in the heart of downtown. Oh my, the selection of treats to choose from is abundant. Their best sellers are the turtles and the English toffee. I can tell you first hand that both of these are delicious and will keep me coming back ! And tho it is not chocolate, the taffy is yummy and the flavor selection is huge. They use the highest quality ingredients and the hand dipping takes place right there in their store. Two Dumb Dames located at 33 S. Main has been in business since 1979. Another long-standing favorite destination. Fudge is their best seller. So many flavors to choose from. With nuts or without is your choice. While there I spied  chocolate covered strawberries and Razorback crunch popcorn. Stop in and I know you will indulge in something sweet. Next up is Ellen’s Patisserie located at 5 Spring St. Right across from Basin Park. Easy to find and more yummy chocolate delights. Their top seller is the Sea Salt Caramel. But you will also find unique treats here like chocolate dipped bacon and chocolate dipped Twinkies. The bacon is a hot seller they tell me. If you want something to cool you down you will find hand dipped ice cream...

Come on with me and let’s head down to Main St. to check out the brand new store in town. Say hello to Gina and Linda , a mother and daughter team who have opened the boutique Magpie. They have dreamed of owning a store together and so Magpie was born at 8 South Main St. As I entered this lovely boutique I found their shop beautiful and unique, full of wonder and joy. Shopping in downtown Eureka is such a pleasure, gone are the days of corn husk dolls and corn cob pipes! Today the stores are as diverse as the fine folks who own them. This mother/daughter team has brought a nice flair to Main St. Gina and Linda are proud to offer lines in their store that give back to others less fortunate. Beljoy is one of those wonderful products. Beljoy was born out of a vision to give the people of   Haiti opportunities to earn money through honest and dignified work. They are taught the craft of jewelry making with clay and paper beads, bone and horn. Bel means beautiful in Haiti’s native language. Their glad hearts are reflected in the jewelry that they make . Buy a piece and you add joy to the lives of someone less fortunate and we all want to do that! Ask about the other brands that they carry along the same genre when you visit. Other jewelry lines include Vintage grove and Women Warriors. You will also find jewelry made by local artists, which we love knowing our hometown peeps are represented in this fine shop. Throughout the store you will find a selection of shoes and purses mixed in with the stunning clothing lines. Nice light weight tops perfect for those warm spring and summer days. The purse line is Viva Consuela. Purses made with love to lift you up. They are bright, colorful and very classy , perfect to jazz up any outfit. Another unique item is the cloths.
